DUQUESA
CE interviewed over 200 women and completed a comprehensive Women’s Health needs assessment. Based on those results, CE led a “train-the-trainer” Women’s Health Education sessions for eight community members, who now provide routine education in the community.
VILLA VERDE
In the fall, the new water purification center was completed through a partnership between CE and Movimiento Comunitario Unido por Villa Verde. Our RISE team helped build six concrete floors in homes. A partnership with Engineers Without Borders yielded a successful pilot project to reduce standing water and, in turn, water-borne illnesses. Additionally, CE assisted eight community members in obtaining employment though the Dominican Ministry of Health to provide medical services at the Villa Verde clinic.
JERUSALEM
2024 was a tremendously difficult year for Haiti and our staff with historically high records of violence and the passing of our colleague, Dr. Fiquita St. Paul. Dr. Fiquita forged a partnership with Polyclinique Science Nouvelle (PSN) to expand care in Jerusalem and its neighboring communities. Her legacy continues through the work of Dr. Christelle Mathurin, who CE hired to provide primary care services in the community and support our Haitian colleagues and staff on the ground. Additionally, CE has continued to support Madam LaFleur’s orphanage, which houses over 40 children.
2025 GOALS BY COMMUNITY
VILLA VERDE
The main goal of 2025 is to transition Villa Verde to a fully self-sustaining community. We’re thrilled to announce that the Villa Verde clinic has been fully staffed by a local team and CE/Rush Global Health will transition out of providing services there by mid-2025. The water purification business has received its licenses and permits, local staff has been hired and trained, and doors will open for business at the start of January 2025. We will continue to partner with RISE and Engineers Without Borders to provide healthy living programs that target public health needs like eliminating flooding and standing water.
DUQUESA
CE aims to increase primary care visits in Duquesa and strengthen the existing partnership with ProFamilia to provide comprehensive women’s health care such as family planning and cervical cancer screening. A second needs assessment will be conducted to identify sanitation challenges and develop public interventions, such as latrines. Additionally, we will continue to train local community health workers to provide health education.
JERUSALEM
In 2025, we will continue to support Dr. Christelle at the PSN clinic, as well as Madam LaFleur’s orphanage. We plan to implement telehealth consultation services for local providers to have access to consult specialties providers at Rush University Medical Center. Additionally, we continue trying to increase medical supply shipments so new and returning patients can have their needs met.
