Important COVID-19 Update
We are suspending all volunteer trips until it's considered safe to resume. This includes the general medicine and gynecology & general surgery trips to the Dominican Republic in March, as well as May's general medicine trip to Haiti, which would have been our first since the political unrest unfolded last year. We're monitoring closely and will continue to make decisions based on maintaining the health and safety of our U.S. volunteers and partners in Haiti and the DR.
Fallout from COVID-19 disproportionately affects low-income countries such as Haiti and the DR. Not only do these countries struggle with lack of infrastructure, medical supplies and virtually no publicly-available ICU beds or ventilators, but meeting basic needs becomes more difficult. While most of us are quarantined with running water, stocked pantries and entertainment, a quarantine in Haiti means no potable water in most households. Our clinics in Jerusalem and Villa Verde are quickly running out of supplies and medications with no teams in the foreseeable future to replace them. Please consider donating for local purchase of critical items so that care can continue to be delivered and basic needs met.
